"Saturday Night Lights" welcomes back the phenomenal Chicago-based jazz vocalist and composer Alyssa Allgood, performing with a quartet of Chicago area jazz all-stars. DownBeat Magazine describes Alyssa as “assured and daring,” and the Chicago Tribune calls her a “model of sophisticated song interpretation.” Alyssa brings a modern approach to the jazz tradition with her original compositions, captivating arrangements, and lyrical focus of self-love and human connection.
Alyssa's program, "Come What May: Songs of Hope and Love," includes songs from her just-released album of original music - "From Here" - and features internationally acclaimed musicians John Patitucci, Kendrick Scott, Geoffrey Keezer and Greg Ward. Her previous albums, What Tomorrow Brings (Cellar Music 2021), Exactly Like You (Cellar Music 2018), and Out of the Blue (Self-released 2016), garnered praise for lyrical expression, instrumental approach, and accomplished scat and vocalese singing.
Alyssa Allgood has established herself as a leading voice in Chicago’s vibrant jazz scene and beyond. She has appeared at such distinguished venues as the Jazz at Lincoln Center Club in Shanghai, Birdland Jazz Club, the Chicago Jazz Festival, the Green Mill, the Jazz Showcase, Winter’s Jazz Club, the Jazz Estate and Noce Jazz Club. She won the Inaugural Ella Fitzgerald Jazz Voice Competition (2017) and the David Baker Memorial Scholarship through the Jazz Education Network (2022). She was also named Best Jazz Entertainer in the Chicago Music Awards (2019), a Luminarts Cultural Foundation Jazz Improvisation Fellow (2016), and a Semifinalist in the Shure Montreux Jazz Voice Competition (2015), where she performed for a jury presided by jazz legend Al Jarreau.
